Coal, petroleum and other fuels contain a certain amount of sulfur, in the combustion process of sulfur and oxygen combined to produce sulfur dioxide(SO2) and trace sulfur trioxide(SO3). These trace SO3 greatly increase the dew point of the flue gas, when the temperature of the heating surface of the boiler tail is lower than the dew point of the flue gas, there will be a high concentration of sulfuric acid solution condensed on the wall, causing serious corrosion, therefore, the dew point is called acid dew point.
Correct measurement of the acid dew point of the flue gas can control the appropriate exhaust temperature, not only to prevent condensation corrosion, but also to recover as much heat energy as possible to ensure the safe and economic operation of the boiler.
The acid dew point of flue gas is the temperature at which the liquid reaches equilibrium with the vapor covering its surface. Boiler flue gas contains about 10% H2O steam and a certain amount of SO3, when the temperature is below 200ºC, SO3 and H2O generate H2SO4 steam, so the acid dew point of the flue gas is the temperature when the mixed steam of H2O-H2SO4 and the solution of H2O-H2SO4 are in equilibrium.
The acid dew point meter is a conductive dew point meter, which is based on the principle of laying electrodes on a high resistance matrix to make a probe head, the outer surface of the probe is in the smoke stream, and compressed air is used to cool the surface of the probe, and the resistance (current) value between the electrodes or its change reflects the dew on the outer surface of the probe, so as to find the dew point temperature that meets the definition.
